Ping
December 20th, 2006 by Andrew WellsThis tool is used for sending packets to another IP address. You will get a reply if the computer you sent the packet to is there, working, is configured to reply to them.
If you have any experience in working with networks (including the Internet), then you should know how to ping another computer from the command line in any platform. This method is very useful for testing network connections, and weather or not the computer receiving the packets is up and running.
So that’s all well and good, but as I said, you can do it from any computer with a command line, so why make an online tool out of it? The answer is pretty simple. Sometimes, it is necessary to ping a computer from multiple locations. My server is located in Texas. If you are far away, then it might be useful to compare ping times between the two locations.
The same goes for the traceroute tool
